About the Role

SUMMARY: This position reports to the Executive Director. The Programs Director is responsible for overseeing the successful implementation of programs, including those funded by a multi-year federal government grant, through the direct supervision of program staff. It requires multi-tasking skills, high levels of organizational skills, the ability to “shift gears” between different requirements, outcomes, subject areas, and types of programs while maintaining the best interest of those we serve while supervising 2 staff and supporting a Programs team of 7-8.

Requirements

1. Manage and Supervise Programs staff in alignment with the agency mission and strategic plan. 

Measures of Success: 

  1. Recruits, develops, supervises, evaluates, and retains high-performance team members, supporting them in elevating their level of responsibility, span of control, and performance. 

  2. Develops, plans, and coordinates the tasks, and duties of the program teams to ensure continuous process improvement, programmatic excellence, and reduced burnout. 

  3. Maintains current and accurate programs procedure documents and create and maintain written procedures as needed.  

  4. Ensures clients receive appropriate, high-quality services through clear and measurable objectives and interventions identified in Client Program Plans (CPPs) with support from the Clinical Director. 

  5. Ensures all personnel documentation and record keeping requirements are met for programs staff. 

  6. Consults with the Clinical Director and all Program services staff to establish and address goals utilizing a team approach for input and discussion. 

  7. Supports all agency licensing and accreditation processes and direct implementation of policies and procedures that support this process. 

 

2. Ensure program performance meets the organization’s strategic goals and objectives. 

Measures of Success: 

  1. Remains up to date on all required training that supports programs supervision, with emphasis on animal assisted programs, human services best practices, and data tracking and reporting.  

  2. Collaborates with all program staff and managers to ensure a strong integrated system of care is being provided for clients. 

  3. Manages team expenditures, documentation, and relevant reporting requirements within organization’s policy/procedures   

  4. Primary oversight and management of the SSG Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program performance and all reporting. 

  5. Evaluates and reports on program efficacy to the Executive Director and make recommendations to address any identified problems and ensure progress towards annual capacity goals and strategic plans. 

  6. Reviews and responds to complaints made by stakeholders regarding programs services. 

  7. Demonstrates an understanding of trauma informed, inclusive, relationship based, culturally sensitive approach in engaging with clients and provides support to staff in this area. 

  8. Observes and interacts with site visitors, donors, fellow community organizations, and other constituents, as necessary to provide support to development and other staff. 

  9. Works collaboratively with partner organizations and develops new relationships. 

  10. Maintains a safe, healthy, and therapeutic environment in the facility for all staff and clients of all identities and backgrounds. 

 

3. Assure timely, professional, and accurate completion of all SSGT Gordon Fox reporting and assessment requirements. 

Measures of Success: 

  1. Coordinates and participates in a quality assurance evaluation and assures that program staff are knowledgeable of required P&S activities and participate in improvement monitoring. 

  2. Manages the monthly, accurate completion of data matrix tools to track programs metrics and capacity 

  3. Ensure consistent ongoing assessments are completed by clients for accurate and complete data reporting 

  4. Ensures all required assessments are collected and capacity goals are tracked as required by the SSGT Gordon Fox suicide prevention initiative 

  5. Ensures programs staff are current on all SSGT Gordon Fox grant procedures and forms 

  6. Creates and update procedures as needed   

  7. Oversees software management and reporting for all services and programs is accurate 

 

5. Supports the organization as needed. 

 

Qualifications 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The following factors are essential to this position and to minimally qualify, applicants must provide evidence that they possess these required factors. 

 

  1. 4+ years’ experience supervising teams and programs 

  2. Bachelor's degree in management, business administration, Human Resources, Social Work, Health Administration, Public Administration, or other leadership related fields 

  3. Proficiency in data analysis and performance metrics 

  4. Clearly demonstrated leadership competence, including competence in staff supervision 

  5. Critical-thinking and decision-making skills 

  6. Strong communication skills and collaboration skills 

  7. Can point to tangible examples of reporting and program measurement and evaluation. 

  8. Proficient in finding creative solutions to complex problems 

  9. Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task  

  10. Ensure program meets the objectives of the organization’s mission 

  11. Passionate about Paws and Stripes’ mission and vision 

  12. Knowledge of program planning concepts, principles, and practices with a focus on building and maintaining a system of integrated care that supports client needs 

  13. Ability to establish program goals and objectives and to assess programs toward their achievement 

  14. Ability to work independently with willingness to take initiative in addressing concerns and issues for desired outcomes 

  15. Ability to establish rapport and gain the confidence of the members of the program staff, clients, and associates 

  16. Ability to work independently and take initiative in addressing concerns and issues. 

  17. Proficient with computer-based applications such as MS Office 365 and associated applications, Adobe, and electronic health records software systems. Strong understanding of MS Excel. 

  18. Must have a valid and unrestricted Driver’s License. 

  19. Must pass a full criminal background check. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree in Management, Public Health, Business Administration, Social work, human services, or other related field 

  • Demonstrated experience in managing federal grant requirements including data collection and analysis to report to funders

  • This position requires the manual dexterity to operate phones, computers, and other office equipment 

  • Position may require the occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds

About the Company

Paws and Stripes, an Albuquerque-based nonprofit, offers animal-assisted therapy and other mental health services to military veterans and their loved ones living with service-connected trauma, including PTSD, brain injuries, and other disabilities. The core of the program is pairing shelter dogs with veterans to be trained as service dogs, while integrating mental health services.
