Title: Team Training Manager

We have an immediate opening for a Team Training Manager to join in this rewarding work. The Team Training Manager facilitates, organizes, and oversees all aspects of Paws and Stripes’ unique approach to integrative veteran service dog training. The Team Training Manager is responsible for overseeing the creation and adherence to training policy and procedure, as well as managing ongoing additions to curriculum. The Team Training Manager must be available to participate in all training activities and also serve as the leader of all training staff in problem solving issues within the department. This individual also collaborates with mental health and enrollment staff to ensure the best program is provided to each enrollee. The Team Training Manager must possess strong leadership, communication, time management skills and must be able to juggle multiple priorities, distractions, and interruptions. This position is a supervisory role. Reports to Director of Mental Health.
Paws and Stripes' Team Trainers utilize dog training skills and case management to assist enrolled veterans in training dogs to be their own service dog or canine companion. Our dogs are often rescues from area shelters and selected by the veteran for this purpose. Team Trainers participate in training classes on site to develop training skills in alignment with Paws and Stripes client care principles and non-aversive, force-free, reward-based training techniques.
Ideal candidate will have 3 years minimum dog training background, strong leadership experience and the ability to work in a diverse and fast paced environment as a member of a team. Ability to conform to Paws and Stripes positive training philosophy is necessary, as is a willingness to bring creativity and an innovative, positive attitude to the approach of working with an underserved demographic. The position requires one-one-one interaction with individuals afflicted with post-traumatic stress disorder, military sexual trauma, and traumatic brain injury. As such, an ability or willingness to learn how to relate to these individuals in a way that assists in their successful completion of our program is essential.
