Client Care MANAGER

The Client Care Manager will assist in providing case management, enrollment oversight, and initial suicide risk assessments of applicants and clients seeking services through Paws and Stripes. The Client Care Manager oversees the Enrollment Coordinators and reports to the Clinical Director.

Pay: $21.00/hour

Key Accountabilities:

1. Assists in providing case management for applicants and clients (assessments, referrals, advocacy, developing treatment plans, and documentation). 

Measures of Success

A. Assists in assessment/linkage and referral of individuals in crisis to an outside provider (VA, in-patient, etc.) 

B. Assists in providing case management for applicants and clients (assessments, referrals, advocacy, developing treatment plans, and documentation).

C. Conducting Psychosocial assessments, evaluation of environmental needs, and determining basic needs that need to be met.  


 2. Provides crisis intervention services for veterans and loved ones in the community. 

Measures of Success

A. Assessing clients at regular intervals by means of varies measures and assessments and in collaboration with providers on continued need for suicide prevention services. 

B. Advising counselors and social workers of clients that are deemed high-risk. 

C. Providing education in the community on risk factors, warning signs, suicide prevention services, Veteran's Crisis Line, and treatment options for at risk veterans. 

D. Maintaining awareness of suicide treatment options and making recommendations to the patient's provider when new options become available. 

E. Conduct suicide prevention psychoeducation groups. 

F. Working with community resources such as Veteran Service Organizations and other community groups to assure that they are aware of how to recognize veterans at risk for suicide and their options for getting these veterans assistance. 


3. On-going Gatekeeper Training program with non-clinical frontline staff such as clerks and telephone operators to assure that they are aware of options for patients with whom they come in contact during crisis situations. 

Measures of Success

A. Professional knowledge of the principles and theoretical concepts of social work.  

B. Provides clients with information and guidance on available government support programs; conducts follow-up contacts to ensure services are provided. 

C. Working collaboratively with treatment team members, attending treatment team meetings to provide recommendations for high-risk veterans.

D. Serve as a point of contact for high-risk veterans not otherwise engaged in care/treatment. 

4. Formulating treatment goals that address identified needs, stressors, and problems. 

Measures of Success

A. Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, case management. 

B. Collaborates with supervisor to identify additional available community services. 

C. Maintains client case management notes. 

D. Contacts clients to arrange appointments. 

E. Arranges and participates in multidisciplinary team meetings. 

5. Other duties as assigned, reports to Clinical Director

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and one year's experience working with the mentally ill, those with intellectual disabilities, and/or substance abuse. 

  • New Mexico Licensure as LBSW (Failure to obtain full licensure or loss of licensure will disqualify the person from meeting the minimum requirements). 

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  

  • Ability to work as a leader and as part of a team.  

  • Independent self-starter with positive problem-solver attitude  

  • Computer literate (Word, Publisher, Excel), able to learn & use client care software 

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, keep organized, and maintain careful attention to detail 


Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Excellent observational and listening skills. 

  • Excellent knowledge of case management and crisis intervention services. 

  • Patient demeanor with the ability to relate to, empathize with, and show compassion for a variety of personalities. 

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a highly active environment with exposure to a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and diverse employee and client population

  • Required to use personal vehicle to travel to potential dog selections, training, solicitations, or other community engagement activities

  • May be required to handle dogs, with or without training, from time to time as needed

  • Daily exposure to dogs in the office environment should be expected.

  • Position may require the occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.

The roll of Team Trainer is to provide client care for veteran clients and graduated teams through one-on-one sessions, group classes, continuing education, etc.; on-site kennel management; case management; etc. Team Trainers must possess exceptional organizational and time management skills and have the ability to work independently and as a team member.


Preferred, 2 years' experience in dog training. Paws and Stripes’ training philosophy is focused on positive reinforcement training. Team Trainers are expected to train using humane methods. The Team Trainer must be able to successfully
handle conflict, difficult situations, and maintain transparent communication with their team. This position must demonstrate high quality communication skills. Reports to the Senior Trainer.

Team Trainer Job Duties:

  • Attend Staff meetings, Programs meetings, and monthly Program Education Trainings

  • Abide by all policies and procedures set forth in the Employee Handbook and any additional organizational policies and procedures; Keep up to date on all changes and additions

  • Maintain working knowledge of all Program department and Client procedures; stay informed of any and all updates and changes to curriculum, policies and procedures

  • Maintain and monitor Programs equipment and supplies and records

  • Maintain a working knowledge of all ADA, Fair Housing Act, DOT and other access law information for service animals

  • Assist with preparation for Program Department activities such as Workshops, Group Classes,

  • Individual one-on-one sessions, Continuing Education Conferences, Annual Reassessments and Socialization Classes

  • Assist and lead Program Department activities

  • Attend and conduct mobile activities for multiple hours per day

  • Maintain quality communication with staff and clients

  • Maintain case management information on current, future, and graduated clients

  • Coordinate veterinary screenings, appointments, and clinic relationships

  • Coordinate shelter partnerships, scheduling, and so on

  • Create and maintain Programs Department documents as assigned

  • Seek innovations appropriate to the position in an effort to streamline processes in support of the overall mission and vision of Paws and Stripes

  • Handle fussy and reactive dogs as needed

  • Monitor health and well-being of client dogs

  • Maintain knowledge in and assist in maintaining current Program Department standards and information

  • Assist and lead dog pre-screening, selections, home visits, multi-level canine behavioral issue resolutions

  • Other duties as assigned


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is performed at a desk/computer screen for extended periods of time in a traditional office environment

  • Work requires use of a computer and computer software to enter data

  • To perform these essential job duties, it will require the manual dexterity sufficient to operate phones, computers and other office equipment

  • Must have the ability to write and speak clearly using the English language to convey information and be able to hear at normal speaking levels both in person and over the telephone

  • Must be able to work without the assistance of a Service Dog for short periods of time when working with other dogs (crates are available)

  • Work is performed in a highly active environment with exposure to a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and diverse employee and client population.

  • Daily exposure to dogs in the office environment should be expected.

  • Position may require the occasional lifting of up to 40+ pounds.

  • Hours: Mon-Thurs, 8:00am – 6:00pm (subject to change with some duties)
