After Training:

A Lifelong Team and Ongoing Support

The Start of a Lifelong Team

After graduating from the Paws and Stripes Veteran Service Dog Program, each Veteran and service dog team begins a lifelong partnership with many service dogs serving their Veterans for the rest of the dog’s life. Together, they face daily challenges as the dog provides trained support that can help the Veteran navigate public spaces, manage symptoms related to PTSD, and feel more grounded, confident, and independent. Beyond the tasks the dog performs, the relationship offers steady companionship, trust, and reassurance. Over time, the team grows together, creating a lasting bond that can bring comfort, connection, and greater freedom to the Veteran's everyday life.

Ongoing Support

Paws and Stripes walks beside the Veteran during their time in the Veteran Service Dog program and continues that journey with them even after they graduate. Recertification courses are available to keep their service dog up to date and practiced on required skills. The Veteran also has access to no cost mental health counseling, peer support groups, and case management to assist them as they continue on their journey of healing.
